“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith … for we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”- Eph. 2:8, 10.
Our Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know we have had a dream to serve in Africa that has been brewing in us for many years. God willing, in the Fall this dream will become a reality. (whoohoo!) We have felt the call to be involved with a health care team in Namibia, Africa. Our passion to serve in Africa has continued to grow throughout our lives and has been fueled by various encounters with people, books we’ve read, lectures we’ve attended and during our studies in Pharmacy at the U of A. It is our heart to be involved with HIV/AIDS education, prevention treatment and care. “I was sick and you took care of me … just as you did it to one of these who are members of my family you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:36, 40)
From November through May, we desire to be Jesus’ hands and feet and to bring hope and love to the Namibian people. We will be partnering with AIM (Africa Inland Mission), and hopefully working with a physician in a small town called Rundu, near the Angola border. Through this partnership, we will help to initiate and build self-sustaining health care programs. We will also focus on building relationships with the women in the area and work to educate, encourage and love them. We long to be the vessels through which God can empower these women.
HIV/AIDS is a global emergency, “If the world is lucky and breakthroughs in prevention, treatment and vaccines occur, “by 2021 AIDS will be killing 5 million people a year. If not ‘lucky’ the toll could be 12 million.” Who can understand or comprehend the suffering and misery these abstract numbers signify for the lives of individual women, men and children?” The fear and stigma attached to AIDS has caused great injustice and sense of hopelessness. In a land where HIV is rampant and rarely talked about, we hope to be a part of reducing the fear and stigma. We must break the silence.
We are hoping you will join us in this journey and support us through finances and/or prayer. We will need to raise approximately $ 1500/month each ($9,000 each to cover costs including basic living needs, airline tickets, transportation etc.) Furthermore, Namibia is a spiritually dark country and prayer is crucial. It is our goal to bring awareness back to North America; and challenge each other to take a proactive role in reducing fear.
